Change is coming for neighborhoods along Tallahassee's Mahan Drive, but residents there are still waiting to see what will happen. The Tallahassee Leon County Planning Department presented the most recent development plan for residents' input.
For those living in the area--they expect commercial growth with a future widening of Mahan out to I-10, but they want to preserve the pristine stretch of road. City and County planners say they are working hard to do just that with road construction expected to begin next year.
John Baker, with the Leon County Planning Department said, "The idea is to maintain this as a very attractive corridor, at the same time, planning for future development which we know will take place along this corridor."
Some area residents continue to say they are hesitant about the plan because they claim it has been different each time the City and County have presented it. The revised 2008 plan includes the Mahan Corridor from Edenfield Road to I-10. Some land use proposals along the corridor include new commercial zones and how they will adapt to the existing residential areas.
