Substance Abuse Higher During Holidays

Experts say the months of November, December and January are the busiest months for drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers. Some studies even suggest that colder months cause substance abuse more so than warmer months plus temptation is always present during the holidays.

Local specialist, Jerry Burghout, Ph.D. said, "Every social event is steeped somehow in alcohol and it gives a person with an alcohol problem an excuse to over imbibe."

The national institute on drug abuse says the overall crime, loss in productivity and health costs of substance abuse in America is more than a half trillion dollars.
