Figg Bridge Engineers, based in Tallahassee, has been honored for completing the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a replacement for the one that collapsed. And now the firm's extraordinary work on the new bridge is getting more national attention on National Geographic.
Figg says the I-35 project which took eleven months to complete was about much more than building a bridge. Linda Figg, Figg Bridge Engineers CEO and President said, "All eyes of the world were watching. The old bridge had collapsed, it was only 40 years old and now a new modern bridge had to take a tragedy and turn it into a triumph."
The I-35 bridge was finished last September. The final cost: 234 million dollars which was 16 million less than expected.
