The Florida Attorney General's office says many in mortgage trouble are turning to foreclosure prevention consultants. The Attorney General recommends just a few simple tips to be aware of scammers.
Ask yourself if have you ever heard of the company and if not, try to find out about them. Is there a contract? And the attorney general also says above all--consultants can not charge you any money up front.
Sandi Copes with the Florida Attorney General's office said, "We're seeing really a lot of predatory examples of that particular type of scam where the people are just taking a lot of money up front, promising they're going to fix the situation--nothing happens--then the people are out of the home."
The attorney general also says homeowners should first turn to their bank before going to third parties for help.
