The Bond Community Health Center held its third annual Women Wearing Red to Fight Heart Disease Tuesday evening. Topics for the event included facts about women and heart disease and there was even a fashion show and music.
The event's keynote speaker, Celeste Hart, M.D., says she hopes events such as this will spread the word that heart disease is the number cause of death for women. "This is an attempt to increase awareness among women that heart disease is a problem and to call women to action to take care of their health and limit their risks of heart disease." said Hart.
The American Heart Association says nearly 39 percent of deaths in women are caused by cardiovascular disease.
