Thursday night at the Silver Slipper, Rhea Chiles was given a lifetime achievement award by the Economic Club of Florida. Chiles founded the "Florida House" in Washington D.C. and worked as chair of the Lawton Chiles Foundation.
Many who attended said they were honored to be there. Loranne Ausley said, "I have the great fortune of working with Rhea and her family now with the Lawton Chiles foundation and her commitment to children is still there and it's uh, the legacy is amazing."
Following the Florida Tobacco settlement--Mrs. Chiles recruited teenagers from all over the state who created the "Truth" campaign--which has become a national model.
