At the Leon County School district's annual retreat, those in attendance Monday discussed policy, administration and getting everyone on the same page for the coming year. School officials met at the Devurn Glenn Center off of Pensacola Street.
The topic that monopolized most of the day was the budget and the budget approval process set to take place this summer. Superintendent Jackie Pons also utilized the retreat to "prepare everyone for the crisis ahead". Chris Petley, a spokesperson with the district said, "We brought in an array of experts in all their own individual fields so that we can get the best information possible. We're really facing a crisis that we haven't faced before, or haven't faced in a long time, so we want to be sure that we've covered the information we have in front of us and the information we're basing our decisions on is top notch."
These issues will also be discussed at the next school board meeting on February 24th. That is also when the school board will vote on whether to close Bellevue Middle School.
