Governor Crist hosted around a hundred people including many Rabbis from all over Florida on Tuesday to watch the dedication of a new Torah scroll. Rabbis say the scroll, which was flown all the way from Israel, can take one to two years to write.
Governor Crist and Jewish leaders dedicated the scroll to the Jewish community of Florida. Local Rabbis say it is an honor the scroll will be given to the Jewish outreach center in Tallahassee.
Rabbi Schneur Oirechman, with the Chabad Tallahassee Rabbi said, "We have been here for nine years. Now, we are beginning the tenth year and there's no better way to begin the tenth year with the dedication of the Torah scroll." The dedication of the new Torah comes just a few weeks before Passover, which begins at sundown on April 8th.
