The 52nd AJM National Finals began on Thursday, June 25, with the first preliminary of competition. Satellite scholarship awards were presented to members of the AJM Class of 2009 at the end of the night.
Laura Moore of Tallahassee won the Press-Register Daily Journal Award, a $1000 cash scholarship presented by Dave Helms of the Press-Register.
During their time in Mobile, contestants are asked to submit daily journals to the Press-Register describing their activities in Mobile. The Press-Register selects one journal entry a day to publish in the daily paper and ultimately selects one entry to win.
Moore is the daughter of Robert and Pamela Moore and plans to attend Birmingham Southern College to study dance and urban environmental research.

The second night of preliminary competitions will continue on Friday, June 26. Scholarships will be presented at the conclusion of the program.
The Class of 2009 will compete for a share of $125,000 in cash scholarships and the title of America’s Junior Miss 2009 at the 52nd Annual National Finals on June 27.
