Neighborhood Energy Challenge

The race is on while the lights are off....the initial results are in for the Tallahassee Neighborhood Energy Challenge.

Neighborhoods throughout the capital city are competing to conserve the most electricity.

The Council of Neighborhood Associations ranks them in 2 categories.

In May, Waverly Hills was first in the total number of kilowatt hours it has reduced compared to last year.

And neighbors in Northwest Tallahassee rank first in reducing their *percentage* of electricity compared to May 2008.

CONA President Stephen Hogge says, "We realized that not everybody was going to sign up but we wanted to show that people could actually if they just took some small steps could actually make a significant difference and we're really showing that."

The winners of the contest will be announced in November.

As a reminder, neighborhood teams are competing for the grand prize in two categories:
largest percentage reduction and largest numerical reduction in electricity use.
