The U.S. Postal Service has provided Congress with a list of 677 post offices that could possibly close or consolidate as it tries to save money..and a Tallahassee Post office is on the list.

A spokesman for the Postal service says the industry is losing 20 million dollars a day and the Government Accountability Office is calling on the agency to create a restructuring plan.

The Westside Station Post office on West Pensacola Street is included in a list of 677 post offices that could be closed or consolidated.

A USPS spokesman says each post office will be studied at a case-by-case basis to see if closing or consolidating with another nearby office would still serve the needs of the community.

Kyle Lyster, a post officer customer says, "I'd have to drive a little, maybe a couple of extra miles, waste gas."

Post office customer Kawana Rollins says, "I think it'll be an inconvenience to the area, because you have the people over here and then you have the campus. A lot of people use this post office so I feel like it'll be an inconvenience."

The Postmaster General asked Congress for permission to reduce mail deliveries from six days-a-week to five.

Local Post office officials declined to comment.

The UPS store is great!!! Just closed my USPS PO Box at Pensacola due to the fact that people do not know how to drive over there! I have been in so many close call accidents in that parking lot with my child in the car that I decided to do business with The UPS Store!!

With all the stimulus money the government is using to bail out banks and automakers... why not bail themselves out via the United States Postal Service????

If history is any indication they won't be aggressive enough! I don't see why they don't close several in the area...westwood, college ave., and northwood for starters. Eventually they are going to price themselves right out of existence!

I am all for mail five days a week. People could go somewhere and not worry about the sat mail. I think this would be great.

Pay attention to the headlines Clif, and don't bank on this. I think when we forget who really has control we tend to get complacent in our surroundings and have this bright idea that it won't happen. Be advised to stay tuned.
