Celebrate America

Dozens are already mapping out the details for the city of Tallahassee's Celebrate America. In its 22nd year organizers say things will bigger and better than ever.

"We're so fortunate to have great events like this and it's one of the really special ones to the community. We've got so many neat things for all the people to enjoy," said Celebrate America volunteer Ashley Edwards.

That includes games, music and a live concert headed by country star Tracy Lawrence. The event attracts about 30,000 people each year and this year there's a new draw.

"We're going to have our Cash 3 and Play 4 live draws out there so people can actually see how a drawing is conducted," said Florida Lottery District Manager Randall Fox.

Park-goers will also get a chance to win money, but the mayor says the city is at risk of losing big, and that's igniting some concern.

"It's sponsored in part by the Parks & Recreation Department. If the tax dollars are not there we may have to cut special events from our budget one of which may be Celebrate America and I certainly don't want to do that," said Tallahassee Mayor John Marks.

Neither do the thousands who show up every year because for them Celebrate America adds a spark to the city.
