Tallahassee's Favorite McDonald's Employee

The economy is in shambles, unemployment is on the rise, and the weather is brutal. All reasons to make us cranky.

But despite it all, one Tallahassee man continues to focus on the positive no matter what life throws at him. And his job depends on it.

David Powe is the definition of customer service.

If you've been to the McDonald's on Thomasville road in Tallahassee, then you've met David. And unlike most fast food employees, David Powe has a fan club.

"He's the only reason we come to McDonald's. If I drive though and he's not here, I go ahhh. Nobody in the world makes me feel better."

And no one in the world feels better than David Powe. He's always smiling, always happy, and always ready to lift your spirits.

" I just like the customers and dealing with people. I love people," said David Powe.

"If he's not here, customers always say, where's David? He's a great inspiration to the company," said store manager Jerod Jones, "He's touched so many people and our customers and everything. He's a great asset to work for us."

David works at McDonald's three days a week, and fills his time working at a gas station and practicing his photography. He's 42 years old, working for low wages yet his co-workers say he is the happiest man in America.

"I try to make him mad, just to see what he would do. But he always says, you're a blessed man," said Jones.

Maybe he has a point. No matter what he does or what challenges he encounters, David Powe fights through it with a smile. The only thing that doesn't get him excited. The thought of another day eating McDonald's food.

"Not really. You can have it so many days. I can't deal with it no more."

    I saw Mr. David eating at Wendy's, I think he was spying on the competition. LOL

    thank's for the warning i will not be visiting quincy MCdonalds. one thing that i can't is an out of control restraunt. Where the people behind the counter are acting likea bunch of wild animals hollerong and screaming and danceing and playing murder music wide open. I GO OUT TO EAT FOR A PLESANT EXPERIENCE NOT A PLACE THAT IS GOING TO RUN UP MY BLOOD PRESSUR.ANOTHER RESTRAUNT THAT NEEDS HELP IS BOSTON MARKET IN TALLY.I WENT INTO A BURGER KING AND THEY WERE JUST NASTY I WALKED OUT. I WEOTE MANAGEMENT HEAD QUARTERS AND THEY SAID RUBBER GLOVES CAUSES MORE HEALTH RISK THAN NASTY HANDS.

    David is the bomb! He even knows his customers outside his job! I'll see him out of work and he will walk up and say "How are you Friend!" Thanks for your great service and kind heart! May God bless you as you bless others.

    This guy need to come over to the quincy Mc Donaolds and show these people and managers how to run a business....You go in this place and you think your in a night club somewhere with the dancing and singing , and the women managers are just as bad as the sorry helpers..

    The Mc Donalds in Quincy is the pits, and the managers are black women, so if you try to talk to them they think it is funny..

    I have worked in fast food many years and so many times the customers bring out the worst in you. It is amazing that nobody has said one bad comment in this person! If I ever go through Tallahassee I will look up this McDoalds for sure. Sometimes we are the only Bible some people read, keep up the good work David.

    David is an amazing guy! His fan club has it's own branch in my office. Many of us there have spoken about what an uplifting and encouraging person he is. My hope is that I can leave the people I encounter during the day feeling as good as David makes me feel when I come through for my morning hazelnut latte!

    My husband and I (both lawyers) are huge David fans. My hubby often asks, "Do you want to get your morning inspiration?" and off we'll be to buy a cup of coffee with a free compliment. I think David is a shining example of what the rest of us should aspire to be!

    To Gene- You are so correct about the behavior of employees at many places. But you can do something about it, ask to speak to a manager and complain, if things don't improve speak to the manager again and let them know you are taking your business somewhere else. Let me know that the behavior of employees is important to you. Also, this is not a race issue as I have seen just a many white folks who lack any ability to deal with customers, I think many of them are the lazy kids who will not do as well as their parents for reasons clear to everyone else.
