Dr. James Ammons Is Officially Welcomed at FAMU

By: Blaine Tolison Email

Dr. James Ammons was officially welcomed as the new university president and there was cheering and laughter, but a sense of urgency as well. The university faces a six-month probation period as it tries to correct some serious financial problems and avoid losing accreditation.

It was stressed that there are big challenges ahead, but Dr. Ammons says he is not overwhelmed.

He said, "Everybody wants the best for Florida A&M, but now what we have to do is to be disciplined at what we do, we have to be professional, but we have to be disciplined."

Mayor John Marks attended the breakfast and he said, "I will do everything within my power, my authority, as mayor of this city to make sure that Florida A&M is and continues to be the institution that we all love and the institution we all know."

FAMU says the challenges that lie ahead will not come with out great opportunities and the university expects a bright future.
