Tallahassee's VFW post 3308 and its commander have received All-American status from the National Veterans of Foreign War.
They are ranked seventh in the nation for how well they contribute to the community with things like community service and scholarships for high school students.
This is the first All-American rank it has received since its opening in 1944 63 years ago. Commander Mark Alvarez will go to a national convention next month in Kansas City to receive the award.
He said, "We're very proud of that and we hope that this is not only the first time, but the beginning of many as we grow and as Tallahassee grows."
