Some special visitors crossed the ocean and landed in Tallahassee Sunday, bringing with them skills that could save a life.

A delegation of doctors and nurses from Krasnodar, Russia touched down at the Tallahassee Regional Airport for a special visit to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

They will be observing the operating rooms and intensive care units at the hospital throughout the week.

Igor Polyakov is a thoracic surgeon in Russia and said, "The medical system is different in Russia than the US so we try to get to the best and better American side of medicine and bring it to Russia medicine."

Their last visit was in 1990, and their training gave them the vision and skills to build a new cardiac center in their city.

The sister-city program began in the 1980's as a peace initiative, but the relationship has remained dormant since the collapse of the Soviet Union in the 1990's.
