Tallahassee, Florida - July 7, 2011 -
ASC Partners With SCBC For Blood Drive - The Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) is once again partnering with the Southeastern Community Blood Center (SCBC) for the fourth annual Me and My New Best Friend Blood Drive. The event will take place Saturday, July 9, at the ASC from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Everyone who donates blood will receive a voucher for a free adoption of any animal at the ASC. The voucher is good for any adoption through August 31. The ASC has received over 4,400 animals since January and has over 120 puppies, dogs, kittens, cats and rabbits available for adoption.
Donating blood is a simple act with a very powerful consequence. Each main blood component - red cells, platelets and plasma - has a distinct characteristic that can be used to help different types of patients heal and enjoy a healthy life. Due to the function of these components, one whole blood donation can save up to three lives!
Anyone who is in good health, is at least 17 years old and weighs at least 110 pounds may donate blood. With written consent from their parent/guardian, 16 year olds who meet the other two requirements may also donate blood. For more information about donating blood or to book an appointment to avoid a wait on Saturday, please call 877-7181 or visit www.scbcinfo.org.
