Tallahassee, FL –

Covenant Hospice is pleased to announce their second annual “A Chocolate Affair” fundraiser, which provides funding for their “cherry on top” services that Medicaid, Medicare, and Tricare do not reimburse, brought in over $11,500 net revenue! The event took place at on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Doubletree Hotel, Tallahassee (101 S. Adams St.) from 6pm to 9pm in the lobby ballroom. Waves of caramelized bananas, flambéed cherries, gourmet popcorn and much more seeped its way through the hotel ballroom into the lobby, exciting guests as they entered the event. Covenant Hospice supporters and the sweet-toothed alike all enjoyed the sounds of the DJ as they danced from table to table sampling the area’s finest treats! The impressive silent auction also gave guests a chance to bid on impressive packages for a great price, just in time for the holidays! The guests came to enjoy a variety of treats, while the eateries came to compete in a light-hearted dessert competition! Representative Curtis Richardson, WCTV’s Lauren Searcy (who also served as emcee), and Rebeccah Cantley of the Tallahassee Democrat were the three lucky judges that determined the first, second, and third place eateries based on an array of criteria! We are pleased to announce their results: third place, Canopy Rose Catering and Culinary Arts Studio; second place, Jacob’s on the Plaza of the Doubletree Hotel, Tallahassee; and first place, Sunny Days Bakery, LLC. At the beginning of the night, guests were given a ballot and asked to sample each eatery to vote on their favorite. As the event closed, it was determined a tie between Mozaik Restaurant and My Secret Chef as our “People’s Choice Winners!” Covenant Hospice wants to extend their congratulations to each placing eatery and thank all of the eateries for their time, hard work, and talent. Without eateries, sponsors, judges, emcee, DJ, volunteers, and local businesses’ in-kind donations, “A Chocolate Affair” would not be possible. Please save your sweet tooth for next year’s event, the third annual “A Chocolate Affair,” and stay tuned for more information!

The second annual "A Chocolate Affair" brought more than 200 people from around the area to sample sweets from local bakeries, caterers, and restaurants.

The money raised at the event will go directly to Covenant Hospice's uninsured programs which financially helps anything from volunteer services to its children support program.

Development Manager, Nanisa Anderson explains where the money goes, "There's a few things that medicare and medicaid don't cover, we like to call it the icing on the top- the cherry on the top of those special programs and unfortunately we don't get that reimbursement from the government so to be able to give these to our patients families to provide them for them we have to have fundraisers to support that financially."

The event included a chocolate competition. Our own Lauren Searcy emceed the event and got to judge the chocolate treats.
