City of Tallahassee Release
This Valentine’s Day weekend, the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) is encouraging citizens to think beyond traditional Valentine’s Day gif1ts of chocolate and roses and express their love by adopting a lifelong, furry friend during its “Adopt-a-Sweetheart” event.
The event will be held at the ASC, located at 1125 Easterwood Drive adjacent to Tom Brown Park, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, and from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17.
“Valentine’s Day celebrates love, and the unconditional love you can experience by adopting one of our four-legged residents is sure to melt your heart,” said Erika Leckington, director of the ASC.
During the event, all adoptions of animals will be $14. All animals are vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped, and most are already spayed or neutered. Animals not yet altered require a $50 deposit that is refundable after completion of surgery. Potential adopters are encouraged to bring their own leash for dogs or carrier for cats to provide a safe trip home.
Keep in mind, while a furry bundle of joy may seem like a fitting Valentine’s Day gift, returning a pet is anything but romantic. Companion animals bring with them a lifelong commitment, and choosing a pet for someone else doesn’t always turn out right. Solution: Take a romantic trip to the ASC together!
