AmeriCorp's Week Kicks Off Sunday

Tallahassee, Florida--

More than 80,000 Americans give back to their communities through AmeriCorp's.

Sunday kicked off the beginning of AmeriCorp's Week. The week is dedicated to raising awareness of what the volunteers do and how they help the community. The AmeriCorp's tutor and mentor youth, clean parks, and run after-school programs.

Members of AmeriCorp's volunteer in a variety of ways. Sunday an art show at Lemoyne Art Center in Tallahassee started the week of events.

Jayme O' Rourke talked about the dedication the AmeriCorp's members have. She said this week helps to show that. She added, "To make the public aware about what AmeriCorp is doing to get out in our community and provide essential needs to people that are needing especially in this economic climate."

This week they will be hosting a food drive, and will be building ramps for the disabled.
