Battle of the Belts Winning School Announced

The Battle of the Belt focuses on some friendly competition between Leon County schools to encourage student to buckle up.

On Thursday, the winners of the contest were announced during a press release at Godby High School. Leon County Sheriff Office Deputies were present to present a $1,000 check to the winning school.

Godby High School won the competition overall and Chiles High School won Most Improved.

The $1,000 check can be used towards school-related activities such as field trips, prom and graduation.

Superintendent, Jackie Pons was present and says, "What's we're doing is making sure that we reinforce to our students the value of wearing seat belts, seat belts save lives."

According to TPD, they investigated more than 7,000 crashesin 2013. Eight of them ended in death. The Battle of the Belts is used by TPD as a friendly way to encourage students to wear their seatbelts and stay safe while driving.
