Children who excel in class - and those who are making great strides - have more than a gold star to show for it.
30 students at Apalachee Elementary in Tallahassee got brand new bicycles!
The children were chosen for high scores, big improvements, or perfect attendance.
They couldn't wipe the smiles off their faces as they climbed aboard their shiny new Huffy bikes.
All the bikes were donated by Academy Sports. The manager got hugs, handshakes and high fives in return.
The bike giveaway was extra special for some of the star students.
Some of them have never had a bike and are now learning to ride.

WHY: Academy Sports + Outdoors in Tallahassee is collaborating with Apalachee Tapestry Magnet School of the Arts to give back this holiday season by awarding bikes and helmets to 30 children through its 11th annual bike donation program. Academy provides schools with bikes to reward children at the school's discretion based on a variety of criteria including outstanding academic performance, perfect attendance, good behavior, need, etc. Academy will donate over $200,000 (retail value) in youth bikes and helmets this year. Each donation event includes 30 bikes and helmets (nearly $3,000 in retail value) benefiting over 2,100 boys and girls.
Students and staff members will be on hand for this celebration. Store management will be in attendance at the events to assist with interview requests.
