Local shoppers were able to make a few extra dollars for the holiday
weekend by donating something that's always in short supply. Someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion every two seconds. The Southeastern Blood bank of Tallahassee is teaming up with Wal-Mart to increase the blood bank supplies. All blood donators received a ten dollar Wal-Mart gift card, a five dollar coupon for outback steakhouse and a wellness checkup. The checkup includes blood pressure reading, iron counts and a cholesterol check.
Selene Woodcock said this was her first time donating blood.
"They say if you help us, we'll help you. They give you the ten dollars for the Wal-Mart coupon and other coupons and you can go get something for yourself.” Woodcock said.
The bus to donate blood will be parked in front of Wal-Mart in Crawfordville until 6pm.
