Press Release: City of Tallahassee

The lanes of Bradford Road are frequently filled with automobiles hopping between two of Tallahassee’s major roadways. Pedestrians, however, face challenges if they need to use this corridor. To increase pedestrian accessibility and safety while continuing to develop a more walkable community, sidewalks will be built along Bradford Road from Monroe Street to Meridian Road. The project will begin on Tuesday, September 3.

Sidewalks will be constructed along both sides of Bradford Road. Currently, there are open ditches and steep slopes adjacent to the roadway that inhibit pedestrian activity. Construction will include replacing the open ditches with storm drains and constructing the sidewalks on top of the ditches.

In addition, the sewer and water lines on Bradford Road will be upgraded. This will enhance service reliability in the area and minimize future repair requirements within the project limits for these utilities.

During construction, motorists will experience impacts. Beginning September 9 and lasting approximately 12 weeks while the water, sewer and storm drain pipes are installed, Bradford Road will be completely closed to through traffic from Monroe Street to Meridian Road. Access will be maintained for local traffic.

Upon completion of the work on the utilities, the road closure will be restricted to the hours between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The project is scheduled to be completed in its entirety by the spring of 2014 at which time the road will be resurfaced.
