Wakulla County, FL- Residents in Wakulla County call him the Pink Pirate, after dressing up in pink for Breast Cancer awareness.

Chris Russell is collecting donations for the Susan G Komen Foundation. He is getting his fourth check of the week. Russell is using his free time from being out of work to help others. He is one of those impacted by the government shutdown.

"You are use to working everyday, but you should take that energy and you make it something positive," said Chris Russell, an Environmental Protection Agency employee. "It is a little challenging not having to go to work everyday, but this is an alternative."

Breast Cancer awareness is a cause close to his heart. He lost his aunt nine years ago from the disease.

"Breast cancer touched home with us my aunt was very close to me and she died relatively young with two younger children and that is hard, hard to imagine," said Russell.

He says he is determined to make a difference and inspiring those going through a tough time.

"Contributing back to society or helping your neighbor, so many opportunities out there everyday," said Russell.

Russell has raised up to $400 this week alone.
