Leon County, Florida- September 19, 2012
Saturday, Sept. 22, is National Responsible Dog Ownership Day! To celebrate and thank the wonderful, responsible dog owners in our area, the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) is waiving adoption fees on all dogs for one day only. From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., you can browse the pups and find your new furry friend!
National Responsible Dog Ownership Day was started 10 years ago by the American Kennel Club. The day is meant to encourage local pet organizations across the nation to provide humane education, share the joy and challenges of dog ownership and highlight the rewards of the canine-human bond. Last year, more than 630 organizations hosted events nationwide.
Humane education is part of the mission of the ASC, as is finding good homes for needy pets. If you’re interested in adopting a dog but unsure about what it take to be a responsible dog owner, stop by the ASC, located at 1125 Easterwood Drive, and let the friendly staff help you.
All animals adopted from the ASC are vaccinated and microchipped, and most are already spayed or neutered. On Saturday, while adoption fees will be waived, unaltered animals will still require a $50 refundable deposit. The deposit is fully refundable with proof of surgery from a veterinarian. Unaltered animals may not be able to go home with adopters the same day.
