Tallahasee, Florida--

Most people know about Cinco de Mayo, the celebration of Mexican Independence. But how many people do you know celebrate Cinco de Rhino?

The project benefits the International Rhino Foundation. Rhino's are becoming extinct and people in Tallahassee are joining in on a nation-wide effort to raise money. Through funds raised and conservation efforts, the International Rhino Foundation says they have seen an increase in the white rhinos especially.

April Salter is on the International Rhino Foundation Board. Salter said, "We know that conservation works, but we all have to do our part, and this is one way that we can all have a little bit of fun, and do our part to help save the rhinos."

One local Cinco de Rhino party will be held at Chez Pierre in Tallahassee on Thursday May 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Entry is $10 dollars and all proceeds go directly to the International Rhino Foundation.

An interesting event, but it certainly isn't timed to coincide with the celebration of Mexican independence, since that's not until September 16. Perhaps it has something to do with the Mexican victory over French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, which did happen to occur on May 5.
