City of Valdosta Plans 9/11 Memorial Service

Valdosta, Georgia- September 5, 2012

The City of Valdosta will host a 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 8:45 a.m., at Valdosta Fire Station #1, located at 106 S. Oak Street. Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Payton will preside over the ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives that day 11 years ago and in honor of the continued efforts of public safety professionals.

“The lives of those we lost and the outstanding heroism displayed by our public servants who sacrificed their lives during the tragic 9-11 attacks will never be forgotten,” said Mayor Pro Tem Payton. “We urge the citizens of Valdosta to observe a moment of silence with us on Tuesday to remember the fallen, to honor the courage and commitment of public safety professionals, and to give thanks for the continued freedom we have as Americans.”

Fire Chief J.D. Rice, Valdosta Police Commander Eugene Bell, the combined Valdosta Honor Guard, and other members of the Valdosta Fire and Police Departments will also be present to honor the innocent victims and brave heroes who perished during the tragic event. Members of the Valdosta Fire Department Pipe and Drum Corps will perform during the ceremony. A special flag presentation by the Woodsmen of the World will also be made during the ceremony.
