What: As part of the 95210 Health by the Numbers, an initiative designed to increase awareness about the benefits of making healthy choices, advocates of the program will present the benefits of avoiding sugary drinks and tobacco products as represented by the number 0. As part of the presentation, experts will talk about creating a tobacco free lifestyle and environment for families, youth, and employees and share way ways to:
Encourage parents to continue making and modeling healthy choices when choosing beverages.
Increase community awareness of tobacco prevention, cessation, and education advancements that have been made throughout Tallahassee.
Educate on resources that are available for parents and youth to continue making healthy lifestyle choices to prevent chronic disease.
When: 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 17
Where: Leon High School, 550 E. Tennessee St., Tallahassee, FL 32308 (steps in front of the school)
Who: Speakers will include will include Mayor John Marks, City of Tallahassee; Jennifer D’Urso, Tobacco Prevention Specialist; Leon County Health Department, Dr. Dennis Cookro, Interim Deputy Secretary for Health, Florida Department of Health; Dr. Homer Rice, Administrator, Leon County Health Department (2-3 min), Raekwon Williams, Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT), Youth Advisory Board Member; Dr. Kevin Frentz, Tobacco Free Leon Partnership Chair; and Vincent Irving, SWAT Coordinator, Leon County Health Department and students from Leon High School
Details: The City of Tallahassee, Leon County, Leon County Schools, Leon County Health Department, Whole Child Leon, Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, Foundation for Leon County Schools, Premier Fitness and other local partners launched 95210 announcing the community wellness and nutrition initiative in April 2012. This event will highlight the last tenet is the 95210 series.
95210: Health by the Numbers is based on proven themes, used by other American communities, to promote the key elements of healthy living. Each number represents a different health tenet:
9 Hours of Sleep Per Day
5 Fruits and Vegetables Per Day
2 Hour Limit for Leisure Screen Time (e.g., TV, video games and iPads)
1 Hour of Activity
0 Sugary Drinks and Tobacco
