Community Summit on Gun Violence Tonight

By: Gina Pitisci
February 20, 2013

Tallahassee, FL - The national discussion on gun violence and gun policies is a hot topic, and one county commissioner feels local communities also need to respond to the ongoing debate in order to make a difference.

County Commissioner Bill Proctor is encouraging the community to live together peacefully and has invited community members to meet tonight to talk about gun violence prevention.

Commissioner Proctor feels that now is the time to begin a local and regional discussion on eliminating gun violence.

He is looking for the community to voice their thoughts and feelings about gun violence prevention at this summit tonight.

Among those invited this evening include elected officials, civic leaders, law officers, educators, students, pastors and citizens.

The recent deaths of officers, civilians and children is why Proctor feels that something must be done and he hopes this meeting tonight will be informative to both state legislative and congressional representatives.

The meeting is taking place tonight at the Leon County Commission Chambers in City Hall from 6:00 to 8:00

WCTV will have updates on what took place at the meeting tonight on eyewitness news at 11.

Commissioner Bill Proctor Release

WHAT: Gun Violence Prevention Community Summit
WHEN: Wednesday, February 20, 2013, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
WHERE: Leon County Commission Chambers

I believe teachers, law enforcement officers and store owners and everyone who seeks safety in our environment deserve a chance to live and work out of harms way. At some juncture we must become intelligent about the harm and the potential destruction of modern weapons. The death of officers, civilians, children and others is an indicator we must do something.

I am announcing a Community Summit on guns and what we can do about it for Wednesday, February 20 in the Leon County Commission Chambers from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Illegal and senseless acts of violence occur in unsuspecting places across America daily. As the national discussion on gun violence and gun policy heats up, we should not be a cold to lukewarm nor indifferent community in response to these challenges of ongoing gun violence.

There is much room for more intelligent dialogue pertaining to gun rights and limiting community violence. It is time we begin a local and regional discussion on eliminating gun violence and I seek your voice toward this end.

I seek to lend my voice to the growing choirs of voices who want our nation and this community to live together peacefully and invite community participants to come together for a dialogue. Invited guests to this community conversation include elected officials, civic leaders, academics, law officers, educators, students, pastors and citizens. It is desired that this conservation can be instructive to our state legislative and congressional representatives with the reasoned opinions of citizens in our area.
