Tallahassee, FL - May 3, 2011 - 11:30 p.m.

Following news of Osama Bin Laden death, people were concerned about retaliation in large cities like New York and D.C.

That's where Leon County middle School students are taking a week long trip.

Pictures in the attached slide show were taken by Deerlake 14-year-old Ryan McQuaig.

Schools across the district have been traveling between the two cities but amidst the concern, parents say everyone is safe.

Shannon Guanche has a 14-year-old daughter on the trip with Deerlake Middle and shares her first thoughts after hearing about Bin Laden's death.

"I thought oh dear God my daughter is on her way to that," said Gaunche. "But I've been in very close contact with the teachers and they're very reassuring they're not going to put our kids in harm's way."

Sgt. James McQuaig from the Leon County Sheriff's Office says, anytime he sends his kids away it's scary, but he's excited his son has this experience.

"Every set of eyes is watching D.C. and New York City right now because of history and this is really a great time for our children, for our future, to get to be a part of that history as well," said McQuaig.

On May 2, the Deerlake group was in D.C. and they're back in New York City now.

Middle schools including, Raa and Fairview have students up there as well. Both parents told us their kids have been loving the trip.
