(TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Feb. 28, 2011) – The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has named Dr. Nancy Wright, Pediatric Endocrinologist, the “Champion Endocrinologist” for the 2011 Walk to Cure Diabetes.
JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research worldwide and is dedicated to finding a cure for the disease and its complications. The Walk to Cure Diabetes is the organization’s signature event and raised more than $12,000 last year in Tallahassee.
As a pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Wright is trained in treating diseases and conditions of the endocrine system. Specifically, Dr. Wright is heavily involved with the treatment of young patients with type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin. Children with type 1 diabetes must take multiple injections of insulin daily or continually infuse insulin through a pump just to survive.
Dr. Wright currently serves as the Clinical Assistant Professor at Florida State University and the University of Florida. Additionally, she has written numerous abstracts and manuscripts, many of which focus on human growth hormones.
As the 2011 Champion Endocrinologist, Dr. Wright will be highlighted as an important leader and spokesperson in the Tallahassee community. She will answer questions from families related to diabetes, will have the opportunity to speak at multiple events leading up the Walk, and will encourage others to participate in the Walk to Cure Diabetes on April 16, 2011.
