Expert to Discuss "Iran, Israel, and Obama's Middle East Policy"

Tallahassee, FL - Steven Simon, an adjunct senior fellow for Middle Eastern Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C., and the Goldman Sachs visiting professor in public policy at Princeton University, will discuss “Iran, Israel and Obama’s Middle East Policy” on Thursday, March 3, when he will present a free, public lecture at The Florida State University.

Prior to joining the Council on Foreign Relations, Simon specialized in Middle Eastern affairs at the RAND Corp. He came to RAND from London, where he was the deputy director of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and the Carol Deane senior fellow in U.S. security studies. Before moving to Britain in 1999, Simon served the White House for more than five years as director for global issues and senior director for transnational threats. During this period, he was involved in U.S. counterterrorism policy and operations as well as security policy in the Near East and South Asia. These assignments followed a 15-year career at the U.S. Department of State.

Simon is the author of the February 2007 Council Special Report “After the Surge: The Case for U.S. Military Disengagement from Iraq” and is co-author of several books, including “The Next Attack” (2005) and “The Age of Sacred Terror” (2002). He also has published pieces in the New York Times, the Washington Post and other newspapers and journals and is a frequent guest on television news and radio shows.

Simon’s lecture, hosted by the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy and sponsored by the Shepard and Ruth K. Broad International Lecture Series and the Human Rights and National Security in the 21st Century Lecture Series, will be held:
