More than two thousand people filed into the Alfred Lawson Center to hear Martin Luther King the third speak. People ranging in age and experience came to hear King.

Henry Steele was the youngest freedom fighter to be arrested in Tallahassee in 1961.

Steele said, "I was among the first group to be arrested at lunch counter sit-ins."

Steele was given an award at the convocation, and King acknowledged his hard work and his father, C.K. Steele's dedication to leading the civil rights fight in Tallahassee.

King said, "members of his family are here, who worked so closely with my father."

Local elementary schools were also invited to convocation, and the kids were more than excited to be a part of the event.

Fifth Grader at Boyd Elementary Carlos Austin said, "It's amazing, I'm speechless."

FAMU Administration hope King's speech will inspire students and community members to do more.

Austin said, "I think I can learn to help the community myself."

King was more than grateful to be in Tallahassee, a place where his wife is from, and still has family here.

At the end of his speech he thanked everyone for having him. He said, "For allowing us to have had this opportunity to share as we continue to observe the holiday of my father Martin Luther King, Jr."
