Adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Marsha Norman and Grammy Award-winning composers/lyricists Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, this inspiring family saga tells the unforgettable story of a woman named Celie, who, through love, finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world.

Under the direction of Luther D. Wells, “The Color Purple” features the talent of several FAMU theatre and music alumni and current students as well as students from area schools.

The creative team includes former FAMU choral director Charlie Toomer as the musical director and guest choreographer James Harkness who lends his experience as a former member of the Broadway production.
