Tallahassee, FL (February 1, 2011) –

The Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association’s Educational Foundation (FRLAEF) announced the winners of the Eighth Annual Florida Lodging Management Program Competition. The event was held in conjunction with FRLA’s annual Winter Board Meeting held January 18-20, 2011 at the Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel, Florida.

The two-day competition allowed for teams of two to four high school students to demonstrate their hospitality knowledge by competing in a question and answer Knowledge Bowl, complete room inspections, night audit tasks, analyze two case studies -- one in Food and Beverage, the other in Sales and Marketing -- as well as demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities in planning an event, including the invitation, banquet event order, menu and floor plan.

“In a few short years, our Educational Foundation has sponsored and trained hundreds of students in the field of lodging management and in preparation for a highly skilled career in the hospitality industry,” said Carol Dover, President and CEO of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. “These young men and women are our future workforce and we congratulate them for their interest and dedication to the craft.”
