Tallahassee, Florida -September 20, 2012

A former educator and politician was honored Thursday, September 20, for his leadership and work in the community.

T.K. Wetherell received a 'Lifetime Leadership' award from Leadership Tallahassee. The group is part of the City's Chamber of Commerce.

Wetherell was presented with the honor at 18th annual Distinguished Leadership Awards.

The award is given to those who've served the community for more than 10 years, were successful in multiple fields and are proven leaders.

Wetherell served as president of Tallahassee Community College, and then as president of Florida State University until 2009.

He also served in the Florida House of Representatives.

"To have people like Louis Langford and the community leaders who really built this, you come to realize you're standing on the shoulders of giants and just to be mentioned is very humbling and gratifying," said Wetherell.

In addition to Wetherell, 15 others were nominated across three different categories including 'Leader of the Year,' 'Leadership Pacesetter' and 'Servant Leadership'.
