Give to Tornado Victims at Free Concert This Weekend

(Tallahassee, FL) – The Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association (FRLA) is proud to partner with the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Leon County Tourism Development (Visit Tallahassee) to encourage the community to contribute to relief efforts for tornado victims in Oklahoma. This weekend, as country music sensation Thompson Square performs live at a free concert in downtown Tallahassee, the American Red Cross will be present to accept donations.

“The Thompson Square concert is a community event that gives us the opportunity to come together here in Tallahassee and contribute to those in need,” said Carol Dover, President and CEO of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, “Our hearts go out to the people of Oklahoma who were devastated by tornados this week, and this is our chance to help with their long term recovery.”

“Our thoughts and sympathy are with all those impacted by these horrific tornadoes,” said Dan Samborn, CEO, Capital Area Chapter Red Cross. “Specialized Red Cross disaster teams are helping now and will be helping for weeks to come as people in Oklahoma recover from these storms.”

Thompson Square will take the stage on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at 8:45 p.m. marking the grand finale of Capital Cuisine Restaurant Week & Concert Series. The FRLA is the prime sponsor of not only this concert, but other local concert performances on Sunday, through their Endless Summer Music Series program designed to promote the local tourism and hospitality industry throughout the year. The Red Cross will be accepting cash and check donations only.

The concert schedule is as follows. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this free event. Food and drinks will be made available for purchase.

At the American Country Music Awards, Thompson Square successfully defended its title as ACM’s, “Vocal Duo of the Year” for the 2nd consecutive year. Powered by a trio of hit singles including the No. 1 double-platinum-selling "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not" as well as "I Got You" and "Glass," Thompson Square swept the 2012 Vocal Duo awards (CMA, ACM, CMT, ACA). "Kiss" was the most-heard song at country radio in 2011 (Mediabase), and secured multiple-week runs atop the sales and ringtone charts as well as two GRAMMY nominations. Their single "If I Didn't Have You" has soared to the top of the country charts, hitting No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and the Country Aircheck/USA Today chart.

Thompson Square event sponsors also include Cone Distributing, Inc., MillerCoors, Coca-Cola, the Tallahassee Democrat, Visit Tallahassee, VISIT FLORIDA, 94.9 TNT, ABC 27 WXTL, Hotel Duval, and Thomas Howell Ferguson, P.A.. The concert is considered one of downtown Tallahassee’s premier events in 2013, which is expected to draw thousands to the area – particularly during the holiday weekend.
