Tallahassee, FL — Tobacco related illness is one of the most preventable chronic diseases that exist, killing over 88 Floridians every day. Tobacco Free Leon and Leon County Health Promotion and Tobacco will host a free training for anyone who would like to help build a tobacco-free community in Leon County. Learn about two of the best practices that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Florida Department of Health have recommended be initiated in Tallahassee.

“We have been working to reduce tobacco use in our community for a long time, but to be successful, we need your help,” said Jo Landrito, director of the Leon County Health Department’s Division of Health Promotion and Tobacco. “Our community must make simple, but important, changes to reduce tobacco use and save lives, including reducing the infant mortality rate. Together we can make a difference.”

What are your practices? Torches and pitchforks? Newsflash, unless you plan to drive all smokers out of Leon county you will never have a tobacco free county, and even if you do manage to drive every current smoker out, kids turn 18 everyday and want to try it, so its a never ending process, personally I don't smoke cigaretts, but I do frequent shisha bars and if you tell me I can't I'm going to laugh at you

If you think someone can't stop you from going to shisha bars then you are stupid...Hookah is the next thing that programs like this will be going after. Hookah is just as harmful as cigarettes. These programs have worked to get cig taxes increased, remove candy flavored cigs, and many more things. Hookah won't be around in Leon County too much longer if they get enough support to get rid of em! No more shisha for you.

Some great work has been done in the area of tobacco prevention in Leon County. Intersting thing is all the Tobacco Specialist in the last 5 years have either resigned or been fired, no one reamining more than a year. Thats no way to be consistent and show sustainability. Sounds like a management problem Ms. Landrito....

I have to agree. Whoever is managing this program doesn't seem to be doing a good job with that much turnover. Where is the accountability?

She is a narcissistic female and lacks management skills. The management needs to wake up and see what exactly is she doing.

It seems her torture stories are famous everywhere. How do they plan to get community support with new face every year?

I would rather see them making Leon county a Drug Dealer free county, because LCSO sure is not doing the job on West Oak Ridge Road.

Nobody is forcing these people to smoke, they choose to kill themselves on their own. I dont see how this is going to reduce anything, smokers are still going to smoke. Kids that have parents who smoke are about 95% sure to end up smokers themselves. Then you have it where a kid sees their friend smoking a cigarette and are offered one. They accept and usually keep up the habit if they smoke them for about a month or so. All im saying is people who smoke are gonna smoke and yeah you might change a few young peoples minds, but in the end its probably not going to be that effective.

Tobacco kills more people then weed! LCSO Resource Officers should be making sure our kids aren't using tobacco while at school...that's what LCSO should be doing!!!
