Tallahassee, FL - Hurricane Sandy blew through the Northeast, killing more than 100 people and knocking out power to thousands.

Relief has been pouring in from all over the country, including from our area. But local food banks want to remind you to fill our refrigerators here at home.

"We're serving 44,000 people a month," said Paul Clements with America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend.

As we approach the holiday season many people in need are stretched even thinner and turn to the food bank for help. He says they see a huge spike in demand every year around the holidays. And as far as donations, Clements says they're doing okay for now thanks to some recent food drives, but warns that these supplies only last for so long.

"We have a lot of families here that are hurting and struggling and the one thing we really want to do is to put a meal on their table. They've had a hopeless year so a holiday meal gives them hope," said Clements.

And as far as the annual fireworks show for New Year's Eve, the food bank will no longer be hosting that. We're told Tallahassee's Downtown is producing the show, with fireworks and live performances from Sister Hazel and Tom and the Cats. It will be free, but you will be asked to donate $10 for America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
