You may have heard the John Cougar Mellencamp song "Little Pink Houses." Well this ... is a big pink house.
A Tallahassee builder is hoping the paint job will serve as a show of support to cancer patients and a reminder to the rest of us.
The color starting going on just after two in the afternoon.
"What color is it?"
"We call it pepto bismol pink for lack of a better color," said Connie Brannen with K & C Painting.
It'll take 20 gallons of paint to cover this home on Manassas Way in Tallahassee.
Emilio Gonzalez and his coworkers at K & C Painting will have it done in just a few hours and it'll stay that way for the entire month of October. Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
"We want to create awareness of the problem of breast cancer, I've had cancer myself," said Rick Singletary with Tallahassee Homes Realty. "We also hope in doing this we'll help save some lives by other people seeing the pink house and remind them hey I need to go get a mammogram or I need to go get my prostate checked."
This is the second year that Tallahassee Homes Realty has painted the town - I mean a house - pink. It donates a portion of its sales through the end of the year to the American Cancer Society.
Folks stop by to take pictures and pose for pictures in front of it and the folks who bought it will be moving in next week.
"It will still be pink so if we need to issue some sunglasses so it's not so bright," Porter Chandler said with a laugh.
As shocking as this hot pink pepto may be to the neighbors, it's a reminder the builders say, of the shocking daignoses that so many people in our community get when they hear the words "You have cancer."
Sherwyn Williams mixed and donated the paint.
Come November it will be painted over, back to something a little more subtle called Superior Bronze.
Last year the builders raised 15-hundred dollars for the American Cancer Society with this project. They encourage folks to donate even more this go round.
