News Release: Delta Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

On Saturday, April 26, 2014, from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. the Delta Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will hold an awareness seminar on human trafficking. The seminar is titled “Human Trafficking: It’s A Serious Matter,” and will be held at the Delta Kappa Omega/Providence Community Service Center, 1908 Highland Street, Tallahassee (off of Lake Bradford Road, Corner of Levy Avenue and Highland Street).

Human Trafficking is the second most common criminal activity behind the illegal drug trade. It involves the commercial exchange and exploitation of humans including forced prostitution and pornography, involuntary labor, servitude and debt bondage. It is a crime that affects both adults and children.

“It is important for us to present this vital information on this serious issue,” said Kym Grady-Holcomb, President, Delta Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. “Florida has been identified as a hub for human trafficking activity and cites one of the highest incidents of human trafficking in the country. Our goal with this seminar is to make people aware of this horrible crime and be a part of providing a solution.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority is working in collaboration with the North Florida Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and the Tallahassee Police Department. The presenters, Investigator Sonya Bush and Special Agent Ralph T. Bradley, will discuss various aspects of human trafficking, how it affects individuals and communities, and how to identify and report suspected human trafficking incidents.

The public and media are invited to attend.
