Innovation Park Future Discussed

Updated: Mon 9:46 PM, Nov 19, 2012

Tallahassee, FL - The meeting was called to discuss proposals about relinquishing some of the Innovation Park buildings that belong to Florida State, FAMU, and the state of Florida.

Right now the three entities are renting the buildings and paying a maintenance fee, but this plan would give ownership of the properties to the organizations and allow the research and development authority to focus on development of other properties.

"This isn't going to effect local taxpayers in a negative sense but I hope that it does effect them in a very positive sense if we can get more businesses growing in Leon County attracting more people, retaining more people from the universities and the technology that's coming out of there, it will benefit our economy," said Leon County Commissioner Kristin Dozier.

The plan to restructure assets is still in it's early stages and no assets will be relinquished yet.
