The quiet of a Sunday afternoon in Thomasville was put on hold for an hour when the Leon Anderson quintet rolled into town (1/16).
Thomas University held its monthly 'Sundays at 4' concert in the Thomasville Cultural Center, and as promised, delivered some 'January Jazz'.
Karl Barton heads the Music department at Thomas University, and he is also the coordinator of the concert series.
Barton says that just "bringing in people who are the caliber of musicians that we're able to get is really amazing."
The quintet made its way up from Tallahassee where Anderson is the Director of Jazz Studies at FSU.
And the other merry players? Well, they're Anderson's students.
"I just wanted to pull that group together because they're all great players, many of them are going on to do great things in music, and I think they deserve an opportunity to come perform for a very appreciative audience like this."
Fast or slow, Anderson managed to conduct the ensemble of piano, bass, trombone, and saxophone from his favorite seat: behind the drums.
And if you weren't a jazz lover at the beginning of the concert, you were probably a convert by the end.
