Leon County Tourism Development grant recipient, Tallahassee United Futbol Club (TUFC), is hosting the 5th annual Florida State Soccer Invitational Saturday, April 12, through Sunday, April 13, at the Florida State University (FSU) Rec SportsPlex, 3950 Tyson Road.

The tournament has been held at the FSU Rec SportsPlex since its inception in 2009, and over the past five years the tournament has more than doubled in size. With a 104-acre facility, which encompasses 21 sports fields and additional activity space, it is large enough to easily accommodate the entire tournament in one location.

"Sporting events of all types create significant economic impact to our community and the continued growth and success of the soccer invitational is just one example of the tremendous benefit that partnerships, such as our grants program, offers,” said Lee Daniel, Director of Leon County Tourism Development (also known as Visit Tallahassee). “It is especially rewarding to see events double in size in such a short amount of time."

This year’s tournament brings 135 teams to town (Boys and Girls Ages Under 9 through Under 18), with more than 2,000 athletes from Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

“We are excited about the growth of the tournament and the economic support this event generates for Leon County,” said Robert Hosay, President of TUFC. “We also want to thank the community for their continued support, which will help us have another successful event this year.”

College coaches will be attending the tournament to scout college prospects.
