Tallahassee, FL- Hundreds of dogs that were at risk of being euthanized at high kill shelters, have been turned over to a local rescue group but now they may have to start turning dogs away.

Second Chance Animal Rescue, or SCAR in Cairo has hit rough times-- and may not be able to do what its name suggests-- give dogs a second chance. From puppies, to pooches- SCAR has them all.

Taking care of around forty at a time is no small task, but its one that President Mollie Johnson does everyday-- for the most part by herself.

Johnson explained, "I worked for the census bureau but it's come to a halt because nobody is here to run this place and when you have this many dogs someone has to be here." So, she left her job to take care of these dogs. Since it's start in Cairo a little over one year ago, SCAR has struggled to generate both donations and volunteers to keep it afloat, and the dogs keep coming.

"I want SCAR to be here. I want it to remain here. But I just can't do it by myself," explained Johnson.

At SCAR they are already at capacity and without more volunteers, they are going to have to reduce the number of dogs that they take in. Johnson hopes her plea is heard.

She said, "We need the volunteers. I don't have time to walk every dog. Everyday. And when im here by myself not every dog gets walked."

Johnson says anyone is welcome to stop by the shelter to volunteer. For more information about SCAR and ways to get involved-- visit their website: http://www.scar-rescue.com/
