Thomasville's Second Harvest is benefitting from the Harveys Grocery store thinking that 'an apple a day helps keep hunger away'.
The supermarket chain has exceeded its goal of donating more than 60,000 pounds of apples to Second Harvest food banks across south Georgia, and officials in Thomasville say the fruit makes things a little 'sweeter' for their organization.
Second Harvest locations in Valdosta, Albany, and Douglas also received portions of the donated apples.
Second Harvest serves as a grocery store for other area organizations who help the hungry including soup kitchens, churches and the Salvation Army.
