Special Olympians got a big boost that will help them train and travel.

The Leon County Special Olympics received a $15,000 check this morning.

That money was raised by both deputies and police who competed in a motorcycle rodeo called the Capital City Challenge.

Special olympian Kelly Jacobson and Coach Bill Schack were on hand to accept the check from Sheriff Larry Campbell.

"I've been doing it since high school, since I was a freshman in high school. I love doing it. It's a great place to meet new friends. I love it. I'm just having a great time," Jacobsen said. She competes in golf, bowling and tennis.

Coaches say the money will be used to buy uniforms and equipment and help olympians travel to competitions in central and south Florida.

It'll come in especially handy now as Leon County Special Olympics adds flag football to its roster.

The Capital City Challenge has raised more than 60-thousand dollars for Leon County Special Olympics since it started eight years ago.
