Tallahassee, FL - A local woman who helped preserve the history of Leon County has passed away.

Annie Bell Sloan is best known through her voice at Tall Timbers Research Station.

She was born there in the early 1900's. At the time, Tall Timbers was a hunting plantation and the Sloan family was tenants.

In recent years, researchers used audio recordings to document her accounts of the 'old days'. Sloan was 101 years old.

Tallahassee, FL - September 19, 2011 - A local woman credited with helping to preserve the history of Leon County is celebrating a big milestone. Annie Bell Sloan celebrated her 100th birthday with a party Sunday.

She was born at what's now known as Tall Timbers Research Station on County Road 12. In the early 1900's, Tall Timbers was a hunting plantation and the Sloan family was tenants.

The centenarian has allowed researchers to document her accounts of the "old days" through audio recordings. "Wonderful blessed - I'm blessed beyond many. You don't find many human beings living to a 100," says Sloan. Local artist Eluster Richardson unveiled a portrait of Sloan Sunday that will now be a part of the Tenant Project in Tall Timbers' archive building.

Sloan had six children with her husband. She now lives with one of her sons and is still active in her church.

What a glorious celebration it was! God is absolutely wonderful and I feel so blessed to be a part of the Sloan Family. She is not the first centurian in the family and, hopefully, she will not be the last one. In recent years, Marie Sloan died at age 105 and Lela Sloan died at age 106. Mother Annie Bell will leave a legacy of love and aging with grace when she finally goes home to be with our Lord! Happy birthday again, sweet Lady. I close this greeting with the name you so affectionately call me, Rev. Beck
