Tallahassee, FL - It is easy to identify the most-Irish retail locations in the greater Tallahassee area. Windows and walls from floor to ceiling already are being covered with green, gold and even platinum-colored Shamrocks – each one signed by someone eager to help advance the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s lifesaving mission.
The amazing local MDA Shamrocks campaign is being replicated nationwide for the 29th straight year, and over 25 percent more retail partners are selling Shamrocks for MDA than during the 2010 record-setting year. More than 20 million Americans are expected to buy Shamrocks this year, with sales hitting a crescendo on St. Patrick’s Day.
“MDA Shamrocks displays are a great expression of creativity by each retailer’s employees,” said MDA Executive Director Crystal Lee. “But what is most impressive, is seeing how enthusiastic shoppers and restaurant patrons are when they’re asked to buy a Shamrock by cashiers, sales associates, waiters and waitresses.
“Each Shamrock purchased provides help and hope to local families living with progressive muscle diseases. Kudos to greater Tallahassee for tremendous public support of MDA Shamrocks, and to all the retailers who proudly display thousands of colorful Shamrocks in their stores and restaurants to underscore their remarkable commitment to our community,” Lee added.
MDA Shamrocks is far and away the nation’s largest grass-roots fund-raising effort themed for St. Patrick’s Day. Notable Shamrocks partners involved locally include:
Lowe's Home Improvement
Public support of MDA Shamrocks is vital, especially since the campaign helps fund the Association’s worldwide research program, as well as MDA’s national network of 200 hospital-affiliated clinics. When it comes to local MDA clinics, area families with neuromuscular diseases can receive unparalleled medical and healthcare services at:
Nemours Children's Clinic at Jacksonville
Mayo Clinic - Jacksonville
“Everybody’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, so it’s wonderful for everyone to share the luck of the Irish by making a $1, $5 or even $20 Shamrocks donation,” explained Lee. “Buying and signing a Shamrock at any participating retailer is quick, and people also can text the word ‘Irish’ to 20222 and make a $5 Shamrocks donation via their phone. Message and data rates may apply.”
